Got this from Azlan on friendster. To those born around this time, I'm sure we are more than familiar with all these stuff and to those who are not, here are something that you could learn about us.
I will attempt to translate the whole thing from BM to english. Here goes:
We grew up watching G-Force, He-man, Transformers, Thundercats, Silver Hawk, Woody Woodpecker, Chipmunks and Mickey Mouse. Not to forget Ninja Turtles, Mask, Smurfs, Robotech, Captain Planet and Voltron.
We brush our teeth during recess in primary school, while holding the colourful cups squating beside the drain with all our friends squating beside us.
"Program Minum Susu" in primary school. To encourage kids to drink more milk. A pack of the milk cost us only 30cents.
Our teachers punish us by using the long yellow ruler to smack on our palm.
A bowl of noodle soup cost us only 50cents.
Hankyu Jaya and Yaohan was one of the famous shopping complexes. Applies to ppl in KL.
In secondary school, you like to wear shoes from BATA and Pallas Jazz. Or sometimes the highcut shoe that is made in China. (I like Pallas Jazz!)
What is internet and email? (I knew this in form 1)
CD? What is CD? Cassettes we have heard of. ( I heard of it in my late primary years)
We buy junk food like Mamee, Twisties, Choki-Choki, KIKI Bubble Gum, Ding Dang chocolate balls, UFO, O-Ya and so etc.
We use to play Monopoly, Donkey, Happy Family in class.
When the bell rings, that is the best time because we could buy the ice-cream with the APEK(uncle) outside the school. Not forgetting the recess bell too, where we can run down and rush to buy food.
PE time. Better known as PJ(Pendidikan Jasmani) for us. All we played was soccer!
One of our favourite games are playing with guli, batu seremban, bottle caps, ice-cream sticks, 'Pepsi Cola one-two-three', 'Police & thief', kejar-kejar duduk.
We quench our thirst with the ice-cream tube. Which is very colourful and you need to break it in half to eat it.
We fold paper into small pieces and then use to "lastik" ppl. We used to throw chalks too.
Our hobbies at that time were teasing father's name. If we could find out the grandfather's or grandmother's name...that is it. Surely get teased. (Mother's name are popular too)
Kids at uni now are mostly born in 1987/88. They are called "teenagers". To them they never heard of songs like 'We Are the World, We Are the Children...' and the 'Uptown Girl' that they know is sang by Westlife and not Billy Joel. To them there is only one Germany and one Vietnam. Spiderman and Incredible Hulk are new movies. They can't imagine a black and white computer screen. They don't know what is 'Atari' and 'Game and Watch'. They don't believe there were black and white TV and they wouldn't know how to turn on the TV without the remote. They don't understand how we could survive without a handphone in uni/college.
