My work place..

I thought I just saw Mattafix outside my office when i was on the way back. The guy was so damn familiar.

As I was walking home, I saw this poster and guess what? It was really him. They are having concert tonight at the Studio. For those who don't know, my office is just beside the Studio back stage door.

My desk

Anyway since I am talking about my office. I will tell you more on what I do. My office is located at 10 Galatos St, Newton. It is just off K'road. Please remember the address so that some of you guys can come visit me during lunch. Hehehe...

My View

Basically my company is a production house. They specialize in doing videos, commercials, new media and internet. My role in the company is to assist my supervisor. My position in the company is called the General Post Production Assistant. Basically my duties ranges from video editting rough cuts of commercials, digitising footages, duplicating video from all kind of format(Digibeta, Betasp, HDV, MiniDv, DVD, VHS, CD, etc), printing discs and slicks, burning CDs and DVDs, flash and director programming, designing, driver, office boy and whatever you can think of. My company is a very small company, therefore everyone helps out in everyway they can. So far I am pretty happy with what I am doing because I am learning more stuff these days. Although it is very technical and complicated, I am picking it up quite quickly.

My other desk

Just today I was pretty excited as I got to do a rough cut of an ad. This requires me to sit in front of the computer and listen to what the director(boss) and client tells me what he/she wants me to add and modify. So it was a good experience because I was pretty nervous as my skills on Avid is weak. But I came out alive, so that's good. =)

Example of my work

So that's about it. Ppl, stop asking me what I do okay? hehehe lazy to answer already..oh and one more question about me staying here for long...All I can say is, I will let you know next month. But definately going back for cny. Beg or steal or kill, I will do whatever it takes to go home. I miss my family!!!

Alright..Adios..Weekends! WooT!

One more thing, didn't realize that it's puasa month. Selamat Berpuasa to all my friends! We buka sama sama alrite?!

Signs You are a 80's Baby

Got this from Azlan on friendster. To those born around this time, I'm sure we are more than familiar with all these stuff and to those who are not, here are something that you could learn about us.

I will attempt to translate the whole thing from BM to english. Here goes:

We grew up watching G-Force, He-man, Transformers, Thundercats, Silver Hawk, Woody Woodpecker, Chipmunks and Mickey Mouse. Not to forget Ninja Turtles, Mask, Smurfs, Robotech, Captain Planet and Voltron.

We brush our teeth during recess in primary school, while holding the colourful cups squating beside the drain with all our friends squating beside us.

"Program Minum Susu" in primary school. To encourage kids to drink more milk. A pack of the milk cost us only 30cents.

Our teachers punish us by using the long yellow ruler to smack on our palm.

A bowl of noodle soup cost us only 50cents.

Hankyu Jaya and Yaohan was one of the famous shopping complexes. Applies to ppl in KL.

In secondary school, you like to wear shoes from BATA and Pallas Jazz. Or sometimes the highcut shoe that is made in China.
(I like Pallas Jazz!)

What is internet and email? (I knew this in form 1)

CD? What is CD? Cassettes we have heard of.
( I heard of it in my late primary years)

We buy junk food like Mamee, Twisties, Choki-Choki, KIKI Bubble Gum, Ding Dang chocolate balls, UFO, O-Ya and so etc.

We use to play Monopoly, Donkey, Happy Family in class.

When the bell rings, that is the best time because we could buy the ice-cream with the APEK(uncle) outside the school. Not forgetting the recess bell too, where we can run down and rush to buy food.

PE time. Better known as PJ(Pendidikan Jasmani) for us. All we played was soccer!

One of our favourite games are playing with guli, batu seremban, bottle caps, ice-cream sticks, 'Pepsi Cola one-two-three', 'Police & thief', kejar-kejar duduk.

We quench our thirst with the ice-cream tube. Which is very colourful and you need to break it in half to eat it.
We fold paper into small pieces and then use to "lastik" ppl. We used to throw chalks too.

Our hobbies at that time were teasing father's name. If we could find out the grandfather's or grandmother's name...that is it. Surely get teased. (Mother's name are popular too)

Kids at uni now are mostly born in 1987/88. They are called "teenagers". To them they never heard of songs like 'We Are the World, We Are the Children...' and the 'Uptown Girl' that they know is sang by Westlife and not Billy Joel. To them there is only one Germany and one Vietnam. Spiderman and Incredible Hulk are new movies. They can't imagine a black and white computer screen. They don't know what is 'Atari' and 'Game and Watch'. They don't believe there were black and white TV and they wouldn't know how to turn on the TV without the remote. They don't understand how we could survive without a handphone in uni/college.

Signs to prove that we are truly old or not:

1) You understand what you've read above and was smiling along the way. (So True)

2) Most of your friends in high school are married. (Not true..None is married)

3) Felt weird when you see really young kids using the computer with ease. (Not true)

4) We shake our heads when we see kids in school now are using handphones. (True)

5) We don't talk much to our friends anymore..(Not entirely true)

Dedicated to all 84 babies.

Random

I realized that I am actually afraid of commitment.

Afraid of uncertainty.

Afraid of the unknown.

I don't know why but I just do. Afraid to take my chances and put all the doubts and worries behind and just follow my heart.

I can tell you to follow your heart and enjoy the ride, but I can't. I can't.

I'm afraid I would make the same mistakes again. Going into something for all the wrong reasons and in the end, the only thing that is left are broken hearts.

Envy those who found love and happiness. Those who dare to take the leap, dare to follow their hearts and leave the rest behind. I respect you guys. Only can wish them the best.

I just don't know what to do. I'm a mess. But I guess we are all human afterall. Aren't we?

Today is the busiest day ever...

I worked from 830pm - 730pm today! Lunch also go for 15 minutes only. It was super duper freaking busy! At times like these, I wished I could split myself into a million Darrens..

I got to burn and print like 80 plus DVDs, plus 80 covers , digitise videos, cut a commercial, make some logos, make business card, cut videos and post it on websites and etc... Damn stress man today.

Everyone was like..Darren could you help me with this and that and this and that and this and that and this and that...I am so going to ask them to naik gaji for me!

Alright enough about work. I don't really like to talk about work on my blog or during my free time. Work is work. Work stays at work. Now is the time to relax! Woohooo...

Ying Swan and Me@Bersatu 06 Closing Dinner

Just wanna shout out HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YINGSWAN! She turns 18 yesterday! Big girl already. HEhehe ...Hope all your wishes come true and hope you enjoyed your very special day yesterday. May all the fun times keep coming!

Slacking

Random entry at work.

Thank you Shermayne and Ying Swan for accompanying me for lunch yesterday! It was really nice of you two, to find me during lunchtime. Better than eating lunch alone all the time.

Got an email from a potential employer that I went for an interview while I was searching for jobs early this year. He offered me some freelance work and I am deciding to take it up if the job falls in the range of my skills. Will meet him tomorrow morning...guess there isn't any sleeping in for me tomorrow. Ooh... and soccer tomorrow. *prays for good weather* Same time, same place people.

2 more hours till my weekend begins..can't wait. Surprisingly I am not falling asleep yet. Slept around 1230am last night. While sitting straight up on my chair in front of the computer again! AGAIN! So sorry to those who I was chatting to last night. Sorry Zaf & Christine. Only can remember both of you..if there is anyone else...sorry. Really knocked out. =P

Okay..slack enough already..feeling guilty and before I get caught! Woohoo..Have a good weekend!

ALL ASIAN REJECTS!

Yeap. You heard it right. That is my soccer team name. It consists of Daniel Lim, Brad, Daniel Teh, Josh, Mickey, Terence, Upp and me. I joined this Senior League at ASB Stadium in Mission Bay.

Why did I join? First for experience and second, to fill up my time. But it is really damn satisfying. Had my first game today and it was damn fun. But today's game was a friendly game. I tell you when I first arrived, I thought we won't stand a chance. Imagine playing with ang mohs taller and bigger than you....I really felt that I was like playing in EPL man...we lost 8-5 man..but it was fun running and playing again. It has been like 3 weeks since I last played, man. Glad I was on form as keeper today and I managed to score a goal. Not easy but it felt great man. Against big ang mohs man...Anyway our performance today really showed that we will stand a chance man...

Oh btw...mom was trying to talk to me last night on msn, but I save her time and called her instead. Wanted to talk to her personally. Gosh I really miss my family.

The sweetest thing that mom said to me that melt my heart was:

Mom: You know, I really miss you.

How do you answer that man? Make me even sadder man...I just answered

Me: I really miss you too!

Anyways by next month I will know whether if I am going back to Malaysia for good or not. Reason that I am staying is only because of my work. I want to at least have a year of working experience on my CV. If not, I would definately be back already. Nothing left for me to stay for.

If Visa approves: I'm going back on CNY! Can't go back in DEC cause it will cost me a bomb.

If Visa dont approve: I will be going back for good during CNY then!

So don't miss me people. I'll be back soon!

Dangers of YouTube

Monday mornings.....are always sucky.

cloudy + drizzling + strong winds + ipod hang + phone hang + hardly any work for me = tired down darren

Maybe it is just because I had too much fun over the past weeks, that reality is catching up now. The end of my fun times since the long long holiday to the umsa ball to the uni break and all the hang out sessions and parties have all come to a halt. Uni is starting and everyone will be super busy already. Just on Saturday night, umsa committee and friends had a pot luck at my place. It was sort of like a get together for ppl that helped during ball and etc. It was nice getting to know the other comm members better and closer. Overlooked that when you are so busy.

One more thing..damn sad lar was watching tv just now and they showed Steve Irwin and survivors of 9/11. I tell you..one after another...sad man.. ;( Tear over dinner man

Anyway, besides the point...just wanted to share some videos with you guys. YouTube is such a great and dangerous site. Great because I can share videos like these:

Not so good because people can upload any video of you acting weird, crazy and obscene without your permission!

Just try searching for my name, Mei, David Liu, Daniel Lim or somewhere along those lines...and you will see horrible stuff..

Now to those ppl with videos, digital cameras...be nice and ask permission first..hehe

ANNOUNCEMENT!: Anyone who wants dessert, please drop by my place! Don't be shy! Please remember!

I never knew, i never knew, that everything was falling through..

The Fray

Out of the normal daily routine of working and slaving in the office and going back home feeling tired, alone and boring....

I went to "The Fray" concert at the Studio on K'road. I was tempted to go for it at first, as I have listened to their songs before. They are pretty good. If you guys never heard of them before try downloading/listening to songs like Over My Head or How To Save a Life. These two are hits from their album. But other songs are pretty nice. I prefer the slower songs. I never knew that the Studio on K'road is beside my office! At around 4 to 5pm today, I could hear them doing sound check! It was damn cool! Can hear their songs before the concert even started. This band is from the US. But their style is like Coldplay abit...some songs lar...u get the idea maybe..The lead singer plays the piano and sings.....damn nice...Girls surely can fall for him..but he is not that leng chai lar...hehehe

Anyway wanna say thank you thank you to Daniel and Yean for joining me to the concert! The more the merrier! I don't know they enjoyed it or not, but I enjoyed it. But thanks again. You guys didn't plan to go but in the end accompanied me as well. -_-" so susah to ask ppl to teman me wan..

Another person that made me day wonderful was Sher Mayne! Thanks for bringing me and the rest of us go makan makan in Howick and then jalan jalan on the beach with ice-cream yesterday. It was so fun. Felt like a kid again. Random and carefree! Terima kasih manyak manyak orrr....fetching us from and back to the city!

Here are some piccies! Read more from Sher Mayne and Ying Swan's blog!

Eat too much already...time to go..
